Another crazy week in Bangladesh... Tuesday was Bengali New Year, or Pohela Boishakh .  I wish I could describe the festivities, but I've been stuck in my room since that afternoon, battling against... actually I have no idea, I went to the hospital and they couldn't diagnose me, so I've been trying to sleep it off for 3 days... So of course, that gave a lot of time to think... I think one of my biggest flaws has always been trying to do too much at the same time; trying to fit too much in, trying to achieve too much, constantly adding more and more, even when it's obvious that I can't take anything else on.  I know this about myself, I acknowledge it.  Unfortunately I can't help it, it just seems to happen, despite, or perhaps in spite, of my best efforts.  I try to concentrate on just one thing, but I seem to constantly be pulled in different directions; I used to think that meant I was heading towards different goals, but now I'm not even so sure of that

On Friday my team won another tournament. After over 12 hours of basketball, the Big Bangs once again held up the Championship Trophy. And then we had ice-cream at Movenpic... The next day, some of us went swimming at the American Club, while others had iced lattes and spent the day playing Monopoly. That evening, we discussed the logistics of the next tournament we would host. Later on, I organised my study for the week, cleaned up a little, wrote some emails to send in the morning, and read through one of the books I picked up a couple months ago, only to drop it after an hour and watch Cloverfield . It's so easy to be "normal" in Dhaka... and yet... The same day as the tournament, violent protests injured over 200 people . Clashes continued yesterday . Meanwhile, the infamous Rapid Action Battalion was back in form . Our electricity supply continues to deteriorate . We've been called in to a "security briefing" at the High Commission. I am completely drained, physically and mentally... We lost the Grand Final last night. It's only the second time I have ever felt the referees decisions influenced the game... At work, all my predictions about the shortcuts coming back to haunt the organisation are coming true... it's an unnecessary pressure and distraction to have, while at the same time attempting to continue all the good work we are engaged in... University work has also taken it out of me this week... we have had sporadic internet connection, as well as increasingly frequent blackouts, so I am forced to stay awake until 1 or 2am when the power comes back on in order to get any work done... And yet, on the upside... Random strangers are recognising me in the street from basketball... my team and I seem to have become minor celebrities... My colleagues are seeing value and importance of accountability and procedure, and are becoming quite proficient at it... having said that, there is a lot of work left t

Navy rein supreme Sports Reporter Bangladesh Navy lifted the Independence Day basketball title with a 55-50 victory over Josephites Club in a hard fought final at the Dhanmondi basketball gymnasium yesterday. The winners led the first half 30-19. Rashed and Lutfar shot 14 points each for sailors Reza was in top form for Josephites with 22 points. My team and I have been playing in the "Independence Day Tournament" this past week. We were drafted by the Josephites, and have won 4 straight games to make it to the Finals, tonight vs the Bangladesh Navy. “INDEPENDENCE DAY BASKETBALL Josephites edged past BKSP 77-68 to reach the final of the Independence Day basketball competition at the Dhanmondi gymnasium yesterday.Josephites meet Bangladesh Navy in the final at the same venue today.In the second semifinal, Josephites led the first half 47-32.Julian scored 25 and Rajib caged 15 for the winners while Mithun top-scored for BKSP.” THE DAILY STAR
